| Cambridge Past, Present and Future Miles Drainage has recently completed a major drainage programme of agricultural land for Cambridge Past, Present and Future at St Catharine's Hall Farm, Coton.
St Catharine's Hall Farm is a new and innovative wildlife and farm reserve being created by Cambridge PPF (formerly the Cambridge Preservation Society) and extends to over 300 acres (120 ha) of pasture and agricultural land. The reserve is situated in the village of Coton just west of Cambridge and close to the M1.
The drainage schemes at Coton have been based on the the installation of pipe lateral drains at between 20 and 50 metres apart, with spacing dependant on the lands natural fall and the structure of the clay subsoil. All lateral drains have been mole drained by the farm tenant at 600mm deep. A minimum number of outfall drains have been installed in order to keep maintenance to a minimum.
